(A) PARYUSHAN PARVE
The auspicious days of Paryushan will be starting soon, and for this year they fall in 2 different months.
Sthanakvasi Paryushan: From Tuesday Aug 14 to Tuesday Aug 21
Deravasi Paryushan: From Wednesday Sep 12 to Wednesday Sep 19
Digambar Paryushan: From Thursday Sep 20 to Saturday Sep 29
Swami Vatsalya Lunch: Sunday Sep 30 2012

We are pleased to advise that Shri Dr. Harshadbhai Sanghrajka from London, will be leading us this year for both the Sthanakvasi and Deravasi Paryushan. He will be accompanied by his wife, Smt. Urmilaben.
Shri Harshadbhai is well acquainted with our Society, having conducted the “Foundation of Jain Studies” and “Atma Siddhi” courses. He also joined us during our Sthanak Reopening & Pratishtha Celebrations. He is the Honorary Secretary of the Institute of Jainology and a lecturer at the University of Birbeck, London. Shri Harshadbhai has a Masters Degree in Indian Religions from the School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London, and a doctorate conferred to him by the Intercultural Open University of the Netherlands, for a thesis on Meditation. He is equally conversant in Gujarati, Hindi and English.
We are indeed honored to have Shri Harshadbhai lead us in this year’s Paryushan.
Note: Shri Harshadbhai will be arriving Singapore on Aug 12 and will be going to Malaysia on Aug 24. He will be back to Singapore on Sep 11 and will leave for London on Sep 22. To allow maximum opportunity for our members to interact with them, we welcome any member who is interested to invite them for lunch or dinner at their residence. Please contact Vivisha Doshi at 97980099. All requests will be on first come, first served basis, and as such call early, to avoid disappointment.

Wednesday, Aug 22 @ 10.00 am - Samuh Paarna by the Sangh for all Tapasvi doing 6 or more Upavasand having Paarna on Aug 22
All activities will be at our Sthanak at 18 Jalan Yasin.

Paryushan Highlights:-
· Every Morning: Svadhyay on “Kalpasutra and Lives of Bhagwan Mahavir”
Pls note the different timings for weekday and Sat/Sun & Mon (public holiday).
· Stavans and Evening Svadhyay over 7 days from Tue/Aug 14 to Mon/Aug 20.
Topic: “Shravak na 12 Vrat in relation to present times” presented with Powerpoint slides.
· Special Programs for Youths (12 to 25 years) on Sat/Aug 18 &for Children (4 to 12 years) on Sun/Aug 19
Do note that while special programs are being organised for certain age groups, the events are open for all who are interested, but the topics that will be discussed, will cater to the specific age group.
“Prabhavna” will be provided every day by the Society, for the period of the Paryushan. Any member wishing to sponsor “Prabhavna”, in addition to the Sangh’s “Prabhavna”, should contact the management committee. We also welcome members to use the Society’s premises during Paryushan (for Sanji, private Paarnas, etc). However, to avoid duplication, we request all members to contact Bakul Goda (98522386), for the same. Priority will be given to the Society’s activities and subsequently, on first-come, first-serve basis.
All members are requested to donate generously during the Paryushan period for Uchamani or general donations. The collections during this auspicious period help us to cover not only expenses for Paryushan and Sangh Jaman but also other regular expenses for the whole year.
On the auspicious occasion of Paryushan Mahaparva, the Management Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish all Tapasvis “Sukh Sata”. We also humbly extend our sincere apologies and request your forgiveness if we may have hurt your feelings by thoughts, words, or deeds – knowingly or unknowingly – during the course of the year. “Michhami Dukkaddam”
(B) SHIBIR 2013
After a gap of 4 years, a new revamped Shibir 2013 will be held in February next year. We have started the preparations and details will be advised in due course. We request all of you to block your calendar for an event not to be missed. SHIBIR 2013 will be held from Saturday 9 Feb 2013 to Tuesday 12 Feb 2013 – Chinese New Year public holidays
(C) SENIOR WING EVENT – SATURDAY 1 SEP 2012
The Senior Wing will be having their next activity on Saturday 1st September, 2012 from 3.00 to 7.00 pm, at our Sthanak, 18 Jalan Yasin.. The program will begin with games and will be followed by Dinner, which has been kindly sponsored by a well-wisher. We sincerely thank them for their generosity.
All senior wing members are requested to contact Ushaben Doshi (63443963) or Ansuyaben Shah (67410741) by 20th August to confirm their attendance. It would be appreciated, that if you have already registered but are unable to attend, then please inform in advance to avoid wastage in catering.
If you are not a member of the senior wing (60 years and above) and wish to join, please contact the above mentioned ladies.
(D) JAIN EDUCATION – FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH
Our society conducts regular Jain Education classes for children and youths at our Sthanak. All classes are conducted in English.
* Singapore Jain Shala (SJS) classes are held on Sundays, about three times a month. All children from 4-12 years old are eligible to attend. Children learn key aspects of Jainism through Stavans, Stotras, moral values, stories, games and outings.
* Jain Youth Education classes are conducted for Teenagers and Youths from 12-25 years old and are held once every month. These classes are conducted seminar style to encourage the youths to interact and discover aspects of Jainism in a practical way.

(E) BOOK ON JAIN PAINTINGS
We wish to inform members that a book is being published in Hindi focusing on “Jain Painting Tradition”. The book includes colorful pictures of an illustrated ‘Kalpasutra’ executed during the reign of Akbar in 1593 A.D. It contains two chapters on Indian Painting Tradition as well as on Jain philosophy and its journey so that the complete picture of this great and unique tradition of Jain Painting may emerge. The book is written by an eminent art historian and essayist Shri Narmada Prasad Upadhyaya. For more details, please refer to SJRS website www.sjrs.org.sg
(F) CONVERSION EXERCISE FROM ORDINARY TO LIFE MEMBERSHIP
We would like to remind all Ordinary Members that this will be their final opportunity to convert their Ordinary membership to Life membership at the special rate, if they have not already done so. The deadline for this conversion exercise is 30 Sept 2012, and will not be extended. All ordinary members who do not convert and/or make payment by 30 Sept 2012 will be requested to make subsequent Ordinary membership renewal payments by GIRO. Subsequently if they wish at any time to become a Life Member, the normal rate of $500 will apply.
If you are not sure whether you qualify, please send an email to any of the following, with details of your full name, mobile number, date of birth and if you have any unpaid membership fees from previous years.
